Be sure to wet the compost thoroughly before using. The composting process that kills the weeds and bad stuff may cause the soil to actually repel water until it is thoroughly soaked. Ground bark makes a great mulch to help keep down the weeds and reduce water evaporation from the soil. In time it breaks down and enriches your soil. Compost and bark are sold by the cubic yard loaded in your truck.
